Founded in 2015, Women in Economics at the University of Wisconsin strives to promote the growth and success of aspiring females within the field of economics.

HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER?
We'd love to have you as a part of our org! To join, simply attend one of our meetings and talk to an exec board member, or email we.wisconsin@gmail.com. All we ask is that you pay membership dues ($15 for the semester or $25 for the year) and attend 3Â of the 5 meetings for the semester to become an active member!
WHEN AND WHERE ARE MEETINGS?
All in-person meetings for the Spring semester will be held in room 8417 at Sewell Social Sciences from 6-7pm. There will be occasional virtual meetings as well to accommodate everyone's needs. An optional study hour will be held after all meetings from 7-8pm.

Meet The 2021-22 Executive Board

Tapasya Nangpal
President
Tapasya Nangpal is a junior studying Economics and Statistics with certificates in Math and Public Policy. During her free time she enjoys cooking and painting. Tapasya’s favorite thing about Women in Econ is the ambition and compassion that all members of the club bring to the table. This year she is looking forward to the networking opportunities with all of the professionals who share their wisdom with us.

Shea Heir
Vice President
Shea Heir is a senior majoring in Economics with certificates in Public Policy and Criminal Justice. Outside of her involvement in Women in Economics she works at FreshFin Poke and the Public Defender’s office. She is looking forward to applying to law school this year. During her free time, Shea enjoys playing tennis and cooking. Her favorite thing about Women in Econ is getting to hear from all of the amazing speakers at our events.

Brooke Wiley
Secretary
Brooke Wiley is a junior studying economics with a certificate in Business. She is also involved in Tri Delta and Her Campus. In her free time she loves to go hiking and go on bike rides. Brooke loves the speaker events the WE holds and is interested in hearing the different experiences of professional women speakers and the insight that they provide about different career paths that can be pursued with economics.

Emi Olson
Treasurer
Emi Olson is a junior majoring in Economics and Art History with a certificate in Material Culture Studies. She is also involved in Chazen Museum of Art Student Ambassadors and Art History Society. During her free time she enjoys painting and listening to music. Her favorite thing about Women in Economics is working in a welcoming environment with driven and hardworking women.

Annalese Lathe
Public Relations & Media Chair
Annalese Lathe is a senior studying Economics and Computer Science. Outside of school she has an internship with Epic Systems this year. In her free time Annalese enjoys reading, painting, and caring for her house plants. Her favorite part of Women in Economics is getting to connect with other women with an interest in economics, and learning about the experiences and perspectives of all of our incredible speakers.

Haley Hammond
Social Events Chair
Haley Hammond is a senior majoring in Economics and Environmental Studies with a certificate in Sustainability. Haley is also on the executive board for Campus Leaders for Energy Action Now (CLEAN). She also loves skiing at nearby hills in the winter and hiking at the State Parks nearby. Her favorite part of Women in Economics is getting the chance to form friendships through socials, study groups, and everything in between.

Judy Zhu
Professional Outreach Chair
Zhiyi (Judy) Zhu is a senior studying Economics with a Math Emphasis and Philosophy with a certificate in Data Science. She has also joined the Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA) and was an intern in Aramco over the summer. In her free time she enjoys reading, watching anime, and boxing. Zhiyi’s favorite thing about Women in Economics is how welcoming and helpful the atmosphere is.

Claire Knutson
High School Outreach Chair
Claire Knutson is a junior majoring in Economics with a Math Emphasis and Data Science. She is also an academic coach through Academic Coaching and Tutoring Services (ACTS). In her free time Claire enjoys spending time with friends and family, taking cycling classes, baking, and flying. Claire loves the Women in Economics speaker events because it's an opportunity to hear stories, advice, and form connections with people who have been in our same position.

"We, Women in Economics (WE) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, in order to form a more perfect student organization, establish opportunities, ensure gender equality, and promote the growth and success of aspiring females within our field, do ordain and establish this Constitution in the spirit of the Wisconsin Idea, for the community of and around our campus, to advocate for and empower women in the field of economics.
